Lake Wedowee

You'll find it just outside of the classical southern town of Wedowee, Alabama. It is one of the largest man-made lakes in the southeast, and it is becoming one of the largest attractions of the great state known as "The Beautiful." R.L. Harris Reservoir, more commonly known as Lake Wedowee, was envisioned by Alabama Power in the late 1960s for a hydro-electric plant.

Ground was finally broken on November 1st, 1974, and the Lake was named after former Alabama Power director, Rother L. "Judge" Harris in memory of his 45 years of dedicated service. The plant was put into full production in 1983, and it houses two massive generating units, which together produce up to 135,000 watts of electricity. The 10,660-acre lake has approximately 270 miles of shoreline.

Whether it be fishing, skiing or just taking a relaxing boat ride into the sunset, Lake Wedowee provides a wonderful environment for a wide range of activities. Lake Wedowee is recognized as one of the finest fishing lakes in the Southeast. A local favorite for crappie, largemouth bass, and spotted bass, other species include white bass, striped bass, hybrid striper, channel catfish, and flathead catfish.

Lake Wedowee is very popular for all ages. The lake is very wide-open, providing a great place for skiing, tubing, wakeboarding, knee-boarding, riding wave-runners, and much more. The fun is kept safe as well, with a state-funded Lake Patrol.

Owning a home on this beautiful lake isn't as impossible as one might think. StoneCo provides an opportunity for anyone to own a home on Lake Wedowee. From our currently developing low-budget Possum Trot community to our beautiful higher-end homes, the possibilities are endless.
